Today we mourn the loss of our former shepherd, the Most Reverend Henry J Mansell who served as Archbishop of Hartford from 2004 to 2013. Born 1937 in New York City, Archbishop Mansell was ordained December 19, 1962. He served as auxiliary Bishop of New York and Titular Bishop of Marazanae between 1992-1995 and then Bishop of Buffalo before coming to Hartford. In his retirement years Archbishop Mansell resided at the St Augustine rectory in South Glastonbury. On a personal note, Archbishop Mansell called me to orders and ordained me in 2011. He will always have a special place in my priesthood. Please join me in offering prayers for his journey home and for the comfort of his family and the many people he served as a priest of Jesus Christ.
