Bless the Baby Jesus
Join us on Sun., 12/15 at the 9:30 AM Mass for our first-ever “Bless the Baby Jesus.” In lieu of Children’s Liturgy, families are invited to bring the Baby Jesus figurine from their home nativity scene to be blessed on this Gaudete Sunday – the Third Sunday of Advent. It’s a tradition started by Saint John Paul II to bring to the heart and mind that Christ is the center of our Advent preparations.
Extend the Tradition!
Families may also choose to extend this tradition at home. With your child, you can choose some simple practices – examples below – to deepen your practice of the Advent season. For each of these loving practices, you can place a piece of “hay” (strips of paper or yarn) in your family’s home nativity scene, and remind your child often why this “hay” is there. This little extension promises to draw Christ even closer to us in this season, and provide a soft and warm place for the Baby Jesus on Christmas morning!
Examples of these practices include:
- Go to Mass
- Say an extra prayer
- Being nice to family member
- Go to bed without a fuss
- Helping someone feel better
- Visit someone who is homebound
- Give to charity blankets, clothes, etc.
- Tell Jesus you love Him
