Music ministry

“Music should assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them.” These words from Music in Catholic Worship sum up the purpose of the Music Ministry at Ss. Isidore and Maria. Through the work of organists, singers and instrumentalists the Music Ministry seeks to musically enhance the parish liturgies: weekend Masses, weddings, funerals, major feast days and Sacramental celebrations.  They are committed to promoting full, conscious, and active participation of the entire faith community at its public prayer.  Opportunities to participate are available for adults, teens and children.  No formal audition is required and no prerequisite for reading music, but must be able to carry a tune and be willing to grow musically.  Prior experience is helpful but not required.  This ministry includes representatives of the Adult Choir, Cantors, Children’s Choir, and Teen Choir.

Adult Choir

A Catholic choir has two roles: adding beauty to the liturgy and assisting the assembly in its sung participation. The St. Paul Choir is a group of 12 to 14 volunteer singers.

  • Rehearsals are weekly on Thursday night
  • Choir sings at weekend liturgies and for major parish celebrations
  • Singers from high school to retirement age are welcome to share their talent and faith
  • No audition necessary

Cantors

Cantors add to the vibrancy of parish liturgies by effectively leading the assembly in song and proclaiming God’s Word through the Responsorial Psalm. It is said that those who sing pray twice. Cantors encourage the assembly to express and deepen its faith through sung prayer.

Resurrection Choir

The Resurrection Choir was formed in 1999 from a group of (mainly retired) parishioners who lend their time and talent to enhancing parish funeral liturgies. Underscoring the liturgical themes of hope and resurrection, this group of six to eight volunteers sings at approximately 40 to 60 parish funerals each year.

  • New members are welcome
  • No audition necessary

Children’s Choir

The Children’s Choir welcomes youth who love to sing from Grade 2-6. We sing once a month at the 9:30am Sunday Mass.

  • There is one practice the Saturday before the weekend of the Children’s Choir Mass from 2:30-3:30pm, and a practice the day of the Mass from 8:30 to 9:15am, followed by the 9:30am Mass.
  • After the first practice, an email is distributed which includes the YouTube links to our music selections. For those who can’t always get to the Saturday practice, these links help your child to become familiar with the music and allow all to practice on their own.
