SS. Isidore and Maria parishioner Kimberly Franklin is to receive the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford for her work as parish Lazarus Minister.
As Lazarus Minister, Kim is the first point of contact for grieving families as they arrange a Mass of Christian burial for their loved ones. She also supports them spiritually in the days, weeks, months and years that follow.
“Kim selflessly gives of her time and talent to our Lazarus Ministry, helping families grieve their loss and plan their loved one’s funeral Mass,” said Rev. Mark S. Suslenko, Pastor, SS. Isidore and Maria Parish, in his nomination letter to the Archdiocese. “She also consistently goes above and beyond assisting them after burials are long over. The pandemic has been challenging for her and her ministry, and she was ALWAYS present. She is an amazing inspiration.”
“It is such an honor to be receiving the St. Joseph’s Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation this year,” Kim said. “I feel truly blessed to be involved in the Lazarus Ministry and thank Father Mark for choosing me for this ministry and for nominating me for this distinction.”
Kim will be presented this honor alongside fellow St. Joseph Medal recipients by Hartford Archbishop Leonard P. Blair at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 11 a.m. She will be honored locally at the 4 p.m. vigil Mass at St. Paul Church on Sat., Oct 16, 2021.
