Accessing suicide prevention and mental health crisis intervention resources just became as simple as dialing or texting 9-8-8 from anywhere in the United States.
9-8-8 provides direct access to trained National Suicide Prevention Lifeline counselors and enables individuals experiencing a crisis to quickly access to behavioral health support.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in 2019 and 12th in 2020, when COVID deaths claimed the third spot. Suicide was the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-14 and 25-34 in 2020.
9-8-8 is administered locally by the United Way of Connecticut.
