The boxes we put on ourselves and others are a human construct designed to provide us with comfort and security. Since Jesus’ time, people have put themselves and others in boxes to meet societal or cultural standards and seek acceptance, validation, or a sense of belonging. However, these boxes – based on roles and expectations and little more – can create great division, stoke fear, and limit human freedom and expression. And according to Father Mark, our boxes can keep us from being the person God made us to be.
