In the past several weeks, significant media coverage has focused on a document released by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in association with the Fall General Assembly of Bishops, held Nov. 15 through Nov. 18 in Baltimore, Maryland.
The document, entitled The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church, is meant to reflect on the transformative beauty of the Eucharist. According to the Vatican website, “…the document is closely linked to a separate initiative to promote Eucharistic renewal, including plans for a National Eucharistic Congress in the summer of 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana.”
The USCCB assembly approved the document with 222 votes in favor, eight against, and three abstentions.
Since the release of the document, media coverage has raised questions among the faithful
To provide clarity, I invite our parishioners to access the resources made available from the USCCB and the Vatican on this topic:
- The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church (full paper)
- U.S. Bishops foster Eucharistic devotion with new document (from Vatican News)
- A FREE, online course, presented by Bishop Andrew Cozzens, on the new document.
If you have additional questions after reviewing these resources, please email them to contact@isidoreandmaria.org so that we may assist in providing clarity.
